AZERBAIJAN-MONTENEGRO RELATIONS

Establishment of diplomatic relations

On July 24, 2006, Azerbaijan recognized the independence of Montenegro.

On April 24, 2008, the Protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations was signed between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Montenegro.

 

Activities of embassies

On April 24, 2012, the Diplomatic Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan was opened in Montenegro.

On December 3, 2013, the Honorary Consulate of Montenegro was opened in Azerbaijan, and Vugar Aliyev was appointed as a Honorary Consul.

On April 9, 2019, the Diplomatic Representation of Montenegro in Baku started its activities.

On June 13, 2022, H.E. Mr. Khamil Khasiyev, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Serbia, as well as to Montenegro, presented his credentials to H.E. Mr. Milo Djukanovic, President of Montenegro.

 

Interparliamentary relations:

There are 7 members of the Azerbaijan-Montenegro inter-parliamentary working group in the AR Milli Majlis, the head of the group is member of the Parliament Mr. Iqbal Mammadov.

On June 10, 2021, an interparliamentary friendship group with Azerbaijan was established in the Parliament of Montenegro. The working group has 5 members, the chairman of the group is member of the Parliament Mr. Miodrag Lekic.

 

Contractual-legal base:

17 documents have been signed between the two countries, 7 documents are under consideration.

 

Intergovernmental commission

There is a Joint Commission on economic cooperation between the Government of Azerbaijan and the Government of Montenegro.
The first meeting of the commission was held on March 5, 2014 in Podgorica, and the second meeting was held on June 25, 2019 in Baku.
